The seaweed is always greener
My Name is James Thomas, I am the eldest grandson of Guboo Ted Thomas and Anne Thomas, Tribal Elders in the Yuin Nation. My people are the salt water people of the South Coast New South Wales.
My wife and I started this initiative to reconnect with our culture and create an industry on the South Coast that is sustainable for the the future of our marine life and the next generation.
Indigenous aquaculture is important to the survival of marine life and habitat helping reconnect indigenous people with cultural practices that will benefit our communities.
We strive to collect and research traditional knowledge and share our journey with you.

My name is Sarah Gorst. I was born in Quirindi and raised in Murrurundi, which means "Valley in the Mountains," along the song lines of the Great Dividing Range on Gamilaroi / Gamilaraay Country in New South Wales.
My family’s connection to the South Coast began in the early 1970s, 4 generations ago when my grandparents relocated from Sydney and built our first family home on the shores of Mummuga Lake. As a child, it was my second home—a place filled with special memories and deep meaning for my family.
I have always been drawn to the saltwater and the mysteries of the ocean. Its timeless wisdom inspires me, and I believe it is our shared responsibility to protect it—preserving cultural heritage and fostering a sustainable future.
Giving back to the land and sea that provide so much for us is not just important—it’s essential.
